What We Believe

Mission Statement
We are disciples of Jesus Christ, a vital multi-ethnic community of faith, guided by the living Word in the Bible.  In the spirit of openness and honesty, we wish to point as faithfully as we can to the signs of Christ’s redemptive presence and reconciling love.

What We Believe
Presbyterians affirm that God comes to us with grace and love in the person of Jesus Christ, who lived, died, and rose for us so that we might have eternal and abundant life in him. As Christ’s disciples, called to ministry in his name, we seek to continue his mission of teaching the truth, feeding the hungry, healing the broken, and welcoming strangers. God sends the Holy Spirit to dwell within us, giving us the energy, intelligence, imagination, and love to be Christ’s faithful disciples in the world.

A Brief History of Linwood United Church
Linwood United Church was formed in 1975 from a merger of the Linwood Presbyterian, Southeast Presbyterian and Linwood United Methodist congregations.  Its strength today is not in numbers, but in its dedicated group of socially and economically diverse people who join together as a family of faith for worship, study, and service.  Currently, its mission to the neighborhood is feeding the hungry a meal on Wednesdays and serving sacks of food on Fridays through the Food Pantry. Linwood United also shares its spacious facilities with the oldest Alcoholics Anonymous group in Kansas City, a Cocaine Anonymous group, two non-denominational congregations, and a civic group.
